hurried traveler

this is how
i think of you

hurried traveler
wandering pilgrim

i think of you
taking off
your heavy
black
shoes

feeling
the lightness
of your feet
in grass
and river water

i think of you
taking off
your most
uncomfortable clothing
to run through fields

restless and naked and alive

shining

i think of you
carrying babes
on your back

feeding animals
with your hands

speaking fondly
to the trees
of the history
of this land

i think of you
running

running
toward the sun

seeking
the brighter future
you’d thought
you’d already won

may you take
all that flight
in you

and
keep running
traveler

run
